Understanding Indigenization and Windsor’s Indigenous Presence

This workshop offers faculty and staff a foundational understanding of Indigenization within higher education, focusing on the unique histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in Windsor and the surrounding region. Participants will explore the principles of Indigenization—centering Indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives—while examining practical strategies to foster inclusive, culturally-responsive spaces on campus. Through discussions attendees will deepen their awareness of the historical and contemporary presence of Indigenous communities in the Windsor area. This session will aim to enhance participants' capacity to support reconciliation efforts, strengthen relationships with Indigenous faculty, staff, students, and embed Indigenous ways of knowing into curriculum and practices.
