The definitions of – and differences between – Compassion Fatigue, Vicarious or Secondary Trauma, and Burnout are tackled in this workshop. Such factors and characteristics as organizational culture, role clarity, ambiguity, overload and conflict will be identified and examined – as well as their roles in contributing to or alleviating work stress – both organizationally and individually. Practical coping resources will be provided.

Whether or not they disclose, trauma-affected people are present in every service setting. Being trauma-informed means reducing the risk of harm through avoiding retraumatizing people who have experienced trauma or creating additional trauma through our interactions. Join us for an introduction to trauma-informed service delivery, including understanding what trauma is, the effects it can have, and best practices to create supportive environments for all service users, whether or not they have been affected by trauma.
